HYBRID ROCKETRY
UB SEDS is developing our first hybrid rocket motor, the motor is designed to carry our rocket to the target apogee of 10,000 feet. The student researched and developed (SRAD) design focuses heavily on weight savings balanced with safety and functionality. This motor uses nitrous oxide (N2O) as an oxidizer and paraffin wax poured into a 3D printed acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) structure that gives the paraffin wax structural support when handling launch loads for its fuel. The motor also utilizes the nitrous oxide vapors as an on-board pneumatic gas to actuate the main run valve.
